Originated by Gene Berg in 1987 These are required for any shock type use. Stock axles are not designed to withstand any drag race type starts when added HP with street tires or when slicks are used. The Berg axles have an exclusive forged spade to provide proper grain orientation in the critical area. Modified chrome moly material is used for maximum strength for all out racing. This is the same material and heat treatment used by top fuel race cars. Spade is ground and polished for proper fit and strength. The factory axle is designed with a taper that is smallest at the spade. This creates an extremely high break point, as all the strain from both ends must be absorbed at one point. Our straight shaft design is used to provide a torsion bar effect over the entire length to absorb extremely high shock loads. This further protects the rest of the transaxle parts. Warning: Not for sale to be used in locked rear ends. NEVER USE A LOCKED REAR END OR SPOOL. Spools or welded spider gears cause 1000 times more broken transaxle parts and could cause the car to be uncontrollable. This is an extreme problem with the rear engine VW and 99% of all VW racers that have crashed or had near crashes in the past have had a spool. They report that the car makes a sudden turn and they have no control over the steering. If this is at speed they report that the car makes a violent turn and the car is upside down or into the guardrail in an instant. |
